How It's Made- Bubble Gum
|
There are a lot of steps to making Bubble Gum. How you start this process is starting with the gum paste, which is made out of plastics' and rubber. You then add color and flavor. When it begins mixing, they add Glucose syrup as a sweetener and to make the gum paste soft. Next, they add dextrose, A powdered sweetener. They then mix the ingredients together for 20 minutes. As it mixes, the stirring action adds heat, which melts everything together. You can tell its ready when the gum has the consistency of bread dough. They move it by cart to a machine called the perextruder. once it gets to the machine the gum is squeezed through a small hole, just like squeezing tooth paste out of the tube. These little strips can now fit through the extruder. Then, the machine makes the gum actual size. It is stretched into one long strip which later will be cut into actual size. The next stop is the cooling chamber so the gum would cool down so it wont stick to the wrapper. It goes in for 15 minutes with temperatures about 37 and 45 degrees Fahrenheit When it comes out the gum is now cooled enough for the Cut and wrap. One machine does two jobs in only a fraction of a second. The machine now cuts it into bite size pieces and wraps it. It produces about 900 pieces per minute ! Last is packing. They load the gum on a scale that automatically weighs out the right amount for the containers. Lastly, they put plastic on the container it to seal it.
